CLP Chair Gerry Mitchell and Secretary Andy Berriman represented Woking Labour at the South East Labour Party Conference. Delegates heard several speakers including Cllr Jason Brock (Leader of Reading Council), Peter Kyle (MP for Hove and Shadow Minister for Schools), Cllr Becky Cooper (Worthing and West Sussex Councillor) and Labour Party Chair and Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities Anneliese Dodds.
Conference balloted delegates for election to South East Labour Regional EC positions and region-wide and county reps etc. Woking Labour voted for the following candidates:
-LGBT Rep: Gwyn Rees
-Regional Inequality Rep: Arjunsingh Bais
-Disability Rep: Gordon Lean
-Women’s Rep: Alison Carpenter
-Youth Rep: Ryan Willett
-Surrey Rep: Robert Evans
-Surrey Rep: Harriet Digby
-Regional Rep: Paula Dunne
-Regional Rep: Alan Durrant
Connections were made, ideas exchanged and best practice shared. Particularly useful was the ‘Let’s Get Digital’ talk, which provided some excellent advice for campaigning through social media.
The day was an invaluable opportunity to put names to faces after such a long period of Zoom-only interaction. Woking Labour look forward to working even more closely with our neighbouring CLP’s in the upcoming local elections and beyond.
