Budget 2010 - securing the recovery
I think this morning’s budget was a strong one. In particular I was pleased to hear about:
- Lower than predicted public sector debt, by £11 Billion;
- Lower unemployment than predicted, exposing the atrocious Conservative record of the 1980s, which took place against the backdrop of a smaller shock the economic system, but left half a country floundering and alone;
- A large receipt indeed from Labour’s tax on large bank bonuses;
- A rise in the threshold on stamp duty, protecting young families as a result, especially in the South East of England and by extension Woking;
- A rise in stamp duty more generally for those who pay more than £1 Million for homes to pay for this
- Increased support and guarantees for young people seeking jobs
- A promise to clamp down on offshore tax avoiders, who lump other less wealthy Britons with their share of the national burden.
