As well as being a member of the Labour Party, I am also a member of our sister party, the Co-operative Party.
In the Co-operative party we are primarily concerned with promoting the values of mutualism, i.e. we believe in independent, community based and democratically controlled bodies such as co-operatives, mutual building societies and credit unions, and the power they have to be efficient in themselves and to improve the world around them.
I’m very proud to say that Surrey will hopefully soon have its own fully functioning credit union, will will allow citizens of Woking access to finance on a distinctly reasonable basis.
For this to happen though, the Credit Union will need initial startup costs covered; that means that residents of Surrey need to demonstrate their interest. I hope that you will consider doing so, and that you will pass on the link to anyone else you know from the area.
